:: TRAFFIC GUIDELINES ::

City Traffic Police is solely responsible for the enforcement of traffic rules and regulations and investigation of traffic accidents and other offences. This is one of the most important wings of the city police.

New Measures Launched:

Traffic Education Program
City traffic police conducts regular classes for different categories of drivers to teach them defensive driving and on road safety. A large number of public under takings, non-governmental organizations and residents’ associations are actively involved in this project.

Act Force (ACCIDENT CARE TASK FORCE)
ACT FORCE is a project designed to help the helpless road accident victims to render them immediate medical help by providing transportation in taking them to the nearest hospital. This is a combined programme introduced in Thiruvananthapuram City by Traffic Police, Indian Medical Association and trade unions. This is one of the most popular and successful programmes functioning in Trivandrum City. In this programme 800 taxi and auto drivers have been trained in first aid by experienced doctors and road safety by city traffic police. These drivers have been issued photo identity cards to make their work effective at hospitals and police stations.

If a person is injured in a traffic accident these drivers come to the scene at the shortest possible time without any intimation as they are already available on the road and take the injured to the nearest hospital in specified vehicles. The ACT FORCE OFFICE pays these drivers. So far thousands of injured persons have been safely moved to hospitals by these drivers through autos, taxis tempos and ambulances. The amount paid to drivers is borne by the Life Insurance Corporation.

Segmented Traffic Enforcement and Education Programme (STEEP)
This is a unique programme launched by the traffic police to improve road disciplines and traffic sense among the road users. In this project one area of the city is taken for traffic improvement and vehicles and pedestrians are checked. The violations made by them and the mechanical defects of the vehicles if any are noted in the checklist. A copy of the checklist is given to the person concerned with direction to attend special classes arranged by traffic police and to rectify the defects of the vehicle noted. This class is mainly intended to impart knowledge on road rules, road discipline, and first aid and road behavior. Every month there will be two classes. If the same persons are caught for a second time and are found repeating the offence, he will be fined/prosecuted.
